Bees, pigs, and goats-oh my!

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

On Friday we were able to get all of our transplants that we purchased from a few local nurseries in the ground.  We planted a 50 ft row of peppers and eggplants, tomatoes (2 rows), and herbs and brassicas (broccoli, cabbage, etc).  There are a few more plants we would like to get; some basil, [...]

Tractoring over the weekend

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

This weekend, I was able to get the tiller hooked up to the tractor again to work on the garden.  We’re officially 2/3 complete (the pigs are still in the last third). The tiller really does make short work of turning the ground, but there were a ton of rocks and boulders.  Using the bucket [...]

Local. Seasonal. Fresh. (Lots of recipes and food suggestions)

It’s hard to even know where to begin.  This week was so intense.  On Sunday our new steer was delivered.  We were told to keep him in the stall in the barn for a week or two until he knows this is his home.  A few hours after he was  closed in, we saw him [...]

Pics from the past week.

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

It has been a busy week. Yesterday was a nice spring day, we did a number of small chores, but nothing major. The absolute highlight of the day was having Mike take us on our own personal wagon ride around the property. Ever since we started dating, even back before we had [...]

A little history.

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

In November 2008, we decided to make a dramatic change in our lives, buying a small family farm in Eastern CT.
Mike and I have always enjoyed cooking, making things, growing things, raising animals, and traveling and exploring our local community. Seven years ago, we bought a 300 year old house in Central CT which [...]
