Through the eyes of a 7 year old
Despite the fact that we haven’t had much of a winter this year and we’ve been able to play outside a lot, it’s still necessary for us to have a stash of fun activities to keep the kids entertained during all our time spent inside. Big J’s go-to is legos, but today we broke out wooden blocks and he built a fantastical tower that was inspired by some drawings the children made last weekend. They’ve really been into both coloring and creating their own drawings inspired by the Scribble Book (we can’t recommend that book enough).
The drawings, including a castle and knight (J drew the outlines and Miss C colored them in)…
Then today, Big J’s tower, inspired from his drawing. Note: He took these pictures, the last two giving really gorgeous perspectives of such a cool design…
Stay warm and have fun everyone!

I keep telling Mike, that little guy has a future at Lockheed Martin.
I LOVE the drawings!!
Thanks, Miriam. I uploaded a few more to flickr, you can see here.
Fantastic on all three counts! Have you guys checked out Minecraft? Seems like it would be right up his alley.
I hear there’s a bit of an obsession on Minecraft. I think I tried out the web version ages ago (heh, a couple months ago!) but didn’t have time to figure it all out. It’s a good idea, I might want to take a fresh look the two of us.
I love that last picture! He’s caught the light perfectly.
Yes, he really did. He was been working with his dad on photography techniques, thinking about light, framing, etc. We are very proud of him.
i havent heard of scribbles books, but they look great!
i just knew we were not the only ones who build with our jenga blocks!!
We LOVE those books. A friend picked this one up for us during their travels. We have ordered several more through Amazon. Our oldest is a bit of a perfectionist, so I think seeing examples of drawings in this style really helps him with his drawing.
