The Have Done List.
It is very easy, especially at this time of year, to get overwhelmed with all of the many things that need to be done. In addition to the daily care and upkeep of the house, children, pets, and livestock, there are so many tasks to do when starting a farm from scratch. Each of these tasks requires a set of decisions to be made and often some new skill to learn. I feel like I never really get time to enjoy the completion of any one project as there are ten more in the works. So, I am employing the trick of the “have done” list instead of the “to do” list. I highly recommend it, it does give one a sense of satisfaction to stop and reflect for a moment.

Here is the front lawn, hopefully the seed will take.
This week we have:
- Removed the loose rocks from the front in order to. . .
- Fertilized, seeded, mulched, and watered (daily) the front lawn (about 25000 sq feet)
- Taken Zsaka, Macs, and Marty to the vet (with both kids in tow) for their yearly check up. Outcome-Marty is great, Macs needs his teeth cleaned, Zsaka had a small growth removed from his ear that we are waiting to hear back about, should be benign.
- Put up the tent by the garden providing the kids a safe, wind and sun-free place to play.
- Cleaned out the chicken shed and duck coop.
- Tilled the 30 x 50 ft section of the garden turned by the pigs.
- Dug a 50 ft trench and planted 50 asparagus plants in it (plus removed some massive rocks from it)
- Planted two 50ft rows of strawberries.
- Trimmed back scraggly branches from oak trees behind house and removed prickers.
- Made lentil soup with the ham bone from Easter Sunday.
- Picked up two-week supply of feed.
It seems better when it is all listed out like this. Additionally, Mike has been learning about his two new tractors and getting acquainted with their care and maintenance. We still have a ton to do over the next month, but we are getting there.

Here is the ""little" tractor.
