Introducing. . .

We would like to introduce you to Marty.  We adopted him on Saturday from a local rescue group.  When Jackson and I went to pick up Izzy from the vet hospital in Rhode Island last week, we met three “hero” cats who live at the hospital and give blood to cats needing tranfusions.  Jackson and I spent a fair bit of time reading about the three cats, learning their names, and saying hello to them in their special play area in the waiting room.  Jackson asked the receptionist if people can take the hero cats home, and she said yes and that the next one up for adoption was Marty.  Jackson was pretty enamored with this idea and as soon as we got home, told his father all about Marty.

After Izzy’s passing, we decided it would be a good time to bring another cat into our lives.  Our sweet cat Leo went missing last fall before our move, and we have Macs, who is about to turn twelve.  We knew we didn’t want a kitten, but a nice adult male cat would be perfect.  So, I contacted a local shelter and told the woman we wanted an adult, neutered male cat who can hang out with dogs, cats, and kids.  She said she had just the one in mind.  So, we went to meet him and he was everything we wanted, friendly, calm, and with double front paws, a very cool feature.

He is not the Marty, but he is our Marty and is a hero cat to us.  He seemed to adjust instantly to being in our house, lounging by the window, sleeping on Mike last night, and tolerating the curiosity of us all.  As I was typing this, Marty was walking back and forth in front of the keyboard and is now curled up at my feet.  Having had two amazingly sweet cats, we didn’t know how the next cat could ever measure up, but he seems pretty amazing so far.
